Black Panther star Danai Gurira was one of four amazing womens to be recognised at the annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. Her speech was so touching and full of powerful emotions. Her words are so truth! Probably after watching this video you will can’t stop crying.
Audience cried and laugh, she made them to remember everything that was in their lives. Happy and sad moments, she said no matter what happened, when all sisters are together this is our greatest power. We are “the vibranium to the others Wakanda.”
Danai started her speech with story that happened when she was only 9-years-old.
“I remember being surprized… A stunning brown skinned woman took my face in her hands, her long flowing braids cascading down her back, I realized it was something I would always cherish. She looked at me observing me with deep appreciation… She held my face, looked me deep in the eyes and she told me that I was beautiful. She said it with such feeling it filtered straight into my soul and left an indelible imprint… This majestic woman with long flowing braids had told me that i was beautiful so now I had to consider the idea that it might just be true. The majestic woman was Susan L. Tailor.”
She also said that no matter what the world threw at her, she was beautiful. This girl is so brave!
“Black girls are beautiful! Sisters are beautiful!” – Danai said.
Her words about who we are made me feel proud.
“She knows she can share her darkest fears and express her deepest problems and be supported, renewed, revived by none other than her sister. She knows she could move mountains, change tides, break through ceilings when she has shoulder to shoulder with another sister.”
